    Other profession you’d like to try? “I think I am well suited for the profession I have chosen. I take great pride in working for an American manufacturing company. While manufacturing does not have the same cache as tech or finance sectors, it is the workhorse of the economy. For over 140 years, A.O. Smith has improved the lives of people in very meaningful ways through the products it makes and the family sustaining jobs it creates. Can you imagine living a life without hot water on demand?”

    What was your first job? “At the age of 5, my first job was selling rocks to my neighbors. Most of my inventory came from rocks that I had stolen from my neighbor’s yards. It was a great business plan. My first real job was the summer after my junior year in high school at A.P. Nonweiler, an industrial coating and paint factory. My father wanted to instill work ethic and the importance of getting an education. It worked.”

    Other profession you’d like to try? “If I didn’t already have two dream jobs, I would probably like to try a career in commercial real estate.”

    What was your first job? “My first job post under-grad was a staff accountant role at Supervalu Inc. based in Eden Prairie, Minn. It was my first taste into the corporate world. I learned early on that the smartest and most talented weren’t always the most successful, but those who could clearly and concisely message a point of view were successful. Messaging became such a powerful skill to develop, especially given my limited exposure to executive leadership. I always wanted to leave them remembering what I had to say.”

    Other profession you’d like to try? “I have always been fascinated with politics. I know there is a lot of cynicism about politicians, but I have no doubt that it’s a profession that can yield powerful results if people are willing to humble themselves and truly serve their constituents.”
