Godfrey & Kahn is saddened to announce that our friend and former partner, William H. (“Bill”) Alverson, has passed away. Bill joined Godfrey & Kahn in 1966 and served as the head of the firm’s litigation team for many years. In addition to a diverse and busy legal practice, Bill was very active in the world of professional basketball. In 1972, he became President of the Milwaukee Bucks, and later became Chairman of the NBA Board of Governors and then CEO of the Houston Rockets, all while handling a full case-load. He retired from the firm in 2008.
Bill graduated from Princeton University and earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Those who knew him well will remember him not only for the outstanding counsel he provided to his clients and the guidance he dispensed as a mentor to younger attorneys, but for his wonderfully incisive sense of humor.
