Justin Webb

Justin serves as special counsel in the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity and Technology & Digital Business Practice Groups, and holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional/US certification (CIPP/US) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Justin’s practice focuses on helping clients with the legal issues that arise from the implementation, use and abuse of technology, with a specific focus on cybersecurity and data privacy matters. His work includes:

  • Technology contracts and licensing
  • The prevention and remediation of data breaches
  • Cybersecurity due diligence in mergers and acquisitions
  • Compliance with state, federal and international privacy laws
  • Reviewing and consulting on information security policies and procedures
  • Litigation and regulatory matters concerning cybersecurity and data privacy
  • Reviewing and negotiating cyber liability insurance policies
  • Myriad other emerging and novel issues that arise in an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven society

Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Justin was an associate at a large Milwaukee firm where he focused on data privacy and security matters, and litigated cases in both federal and state court. He also served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable J.P. Stadtmueller of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

During law school, Justin was a judicial intern for Justice Ann Walsh Bradley of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Honorable Diane S. Sykes of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prior to practicing law, Justin worked full-time as the Information Security Officer at Marquette University, managing intrusion detection and prevention, data security, incident response, and penetration testing. He was in charge of all aspects of the university’s cybersecurity and coordinated with the Office of General Counsel on legal issues relating to information privacy.
