Our cross-discipline Practice Group has advised clean tech manufacturers on all phases of their businesses, including structuring business activities, competitive positioning, applying for government incentives, securing debt and equity financing and protecting intellectual property. Clean energy manufacturers have also relied on our counsel for complex regulatory matters involving facility siting. The Energy Strategies Group has helped clients negotiate purchase and supply agreements that reflect sophisticated design requirements and clean energy certification and qualification standards.
The Energy Strategies Practice Group is on the leading edge of developments in governmental incentives for clean energy. We focus on identifying the most cost-effective ways for clients to incorporate renewable energy and significant energy efficiency projects into their energy/business portfolios. We have assisted clients in obtaining millions of dollars in competitive grand and other incentives and in strategies to maximize the value of tax credits and other incentives.
We provide federal and state grant-funding information and application drafting, including grants from federal agencies such as the Department of Energy, the Treasury Department, the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Wisconsin agencies, including the Department of Natural Resources and Focus on Energy. We frequently advise clients regarding tax incentives, including investment tax credits, and the beneficial depreciation deduction, and how to combine available various incentives for maximum value. We also help clients capitalize on new government initiatives to support clean energy and energy efficiency, such as Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing and Focus on Energy zero interest loans.

Permitting Wind Farm Manufacturing Facility
Godfrey & Kahn represented a fabricator of wind farm components to establish a new facility in Wisconsin. The facility required air permitting and a stormwater permit for new construction. With the assistance of technical consultants, Godfrey & Kahn successfully negotiated storm water and air permits for the facility.
Solar Development Company Client
Godfrey & Kahn provided all outside legal advice to solar development company that implements innovative projects utilizing technologies that combine solar hot water heating and solar photovoltaic (PV) cells.
Solar Development for Municipal and Governmental Entities
Godfrey & Kahn worked with developer to create strategies allowing it to develop solar projects for nonprofits, local governmental entities and other nontaxable entities that provide for the monetization of valuable investment tax credits and accelerated appreciation that can apply to solar projects.
