The firm is known as one of the Midwest’s premier insurance law firms.
Our insurance attorneys provide services to many insurance companies, both in Wisconsin and in other jurisdictions. These services range from corporate restructurings and regulatory matters to coverage litigation. Antitrust issues can arise in many contexts in the operation of insurance businesses whether insurers are interacting with other insurers or purchasing services from suppliers.
The Antitrust Practice Group provides our insurance clients with unparalleled antitrust counsel, and we have significant experience in handling many types of cases. Prior to joining the firm, Kevin O’Connor was a leader in the seminal Hartford Fire Ins. Co. v. Cal., 509 U.S. 764 (1993) case concerning claims that U.S. and international reinsurers boycotted certain lines of property and casualty business insurance. He also has worked closely with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and served as the Attorney General’s representative on the Wisconsin Insurance Security Fund Board. He has authored amicus curiae briefs such as those filed on behalf of 36 states in the U.S. Supreme Court in FTC v. Ticor Title Insur. Co., 504 U.S. 621 (1992), a case which held that state regulators did not regulate title insurance actively enough to give the insurers immunity from the antitrust laws. His experience, and that of the other members of the Antitrust Practice Group, complements the firm’s extensive insurance litigation and regulatory practice.
