History. The entrepreneurial spirit of our firm began with its founders, Dudley J. Godfrey, Jr. and Gerald J. Kahn, who met as undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin. Dudley later graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and Gerald the University of Wisconsin Law School. After working in Washington, D.C., they returned to Milwaukee and began a tax and estate planning practice in 1957. As their clientele expanded and diversified, so did the need to offer advice and counsel in all types of business matters. The firm steadily grew into what it is today—a multi-office business law firm that provides proactive, creative counsel to clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Our firm takes pride in helping clients succeed, at every size and stage of growth. Now in its second generation of leadership, Godfrey & Kahn has established itself as one of Wisconsin's largest and most well respected law firms.
