David J. Gilles Joins Godfrey & Kahn's Energy, Antitrust and Trade Practice GroupsFebruary 05, 2007
The law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. announced that David J. Gilles has joined the firm as a shareholder in the firm's Madison office, LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn. Gilles plans to utilize his substantial experience in government work by concentrating his practice in the areas of energy, telecommunications, antitrust and consumer regulatory matters for clients of the firm.
Prior to joining the firm, Gilles spent four years serving as General Counsel for the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. During his tenure, the commission was involved in numerous significant decisions including the authorization of construction of power plants and transmission facilities, all of which were upheld by the appellate courts.
Before serving as General Counsel, Gilles was an Assistant Attorney General with the Wisconsin Department of Justice. As an Assistant Attorney General, he focused on consumer protection, trade regulation and antitrust enforcement actions. In particular, Gilles was immersed in consumer protection issues that emerged as the telecommunications industry was deregulated at the state and federal levels. He was not only involved in the deregulation process, but also served as the department's telecommunication advocate. Gilles handled other significant consumer protection litigation and policy matters.
In addition, Gilles was actively involved with several working groups of the National Association of Attorneys General regarding both consumer protection and antitrust issues.
Gilles received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and his bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton. He is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association and the Energy Bar Association.
