Employees Volunteer For Martin Luther King Jr. Day

May 19, 2014

Each year Godfrey & Kahn looks to honor the memory of Dr. King by encouraging attorneys and staff to volunteer at various non-profit organizations throughout the metro Milwaukee area.

This past January, one of the non-profits Godfrey & Kahn assisted was Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee. On a cold winter afternoon, a group of firm employees assembled 440 stockboxes of food to help feed seniors facing hunger. A stockbox is a box of healthy foods that Hunger Task Force delivers to low-income seniors free of charge. Each box contains 16 nutritious items including rice, cereal, juice, beef stew, pasta and vegetables. Each month Hunger Task Force deliver’s nearly 10,000 boxes to needy seniors in the community, helping them stretch their food budgets. Stockboxes are an important first step in making sure that low-income seniors have monthly access to healthy and nutritious foods.

Hunger Task Force is Wisconsin’s premier anti-hunger organization and has been feeding Milwaukee since 1974. It’s locally founded, locally funded and locally run, with more than 5,000 people volunteering each year.
