Milwaukee, Wisconsin...Godfrey & Kahn is pleased to announce that Peter Sommerhauser, a shareholder in the corporate law practice group, and Arthur Harrington, a shareholder in the firm’s environmental and energy practice group, were named to Milwaukee Magazine’s "Top 75 Lawyers" list in their respective areas of law. This is the consecutive appearance on the list for Sommerhauser and Harrington.
Peter Sommerhauser has practiced with Godfrey & Kahn for nearly 35 years. As one of the firm’s first attorneys, he worked to build the firm’s corporate law capabilities, concentrating his practice on mergers and acquisitions and business and financial planning. Sommerhauser has handled numerous acquisitions, ranging from management-leveraged buyouts to the acquisition and sale of publicly traded entities. He also serves on a number of boards of directors for private and publicly held companies. Sommerhauser most recently appeared as Wisconsin’s leading attorney for merger and acquisition work in the "America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2003-2004" list published by Chambers & Partners. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska and his law degree from Northwestern University Law School in 1968.
Art Harrington, who was named the top environmental lawyer in Milwaukee, is the team leader of the environmental and energy law practice group and has nearly two decades of experience in federal and state environmental law. He concentrates his practice in the mediation and litigation of environmental disputes and the negotiation of energy contracts. In addition, Harrington represents purchasers in numerous Brownfields transactions. Most notable are the Kenosha/Chrysler Lakefront and Quad Graphics/City of West Allis issues, two of the most significant Brownfields transactions subject to the new Wisconsin Land Recycling Act. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin in 1972 and 1975, respectively, and joined Godfrey & Kahn in 1988. He is a past president of the Milwaukee Bar Association and currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees of the Milwaukee Public Library.
"We’re proud of the reputation Godfrey & Kahn has established for helping our clients build their businesses. We’re equally proud of our attorneys, specifically Art and Peter, whose experience and capabilities were recognized by Milwaukee Magazine and their peers," said Rick Bliss, managing partner of Godfrey & Kahn.
The "Top 75 Lawyers" list is published by Milwaukee Magazine. It summarizes more than 200 surveys distributed to private attorneys, public attorneys and judges for their comments on and review of individual attorneys and the legal profession in general.
