Godfrey & Kahn Attorneys, Practice Areas Earn Top Rankings in State

Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce that the firm’s corporate/M&A, real estate and litigation practices were ranked among the top statewide, according to a listing of "America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2004-2005" compiled by Chambers & Partners.
Leading the state’s corporate/M&A work were Peter Sommerhauser of the firm’s Milwaukee office and Michael Skindrud of the firm’s Madison office, LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn. Steve Chernof of Milwaukee was named a leading real estate attorney and Mike Dwyer, the team’s leader, was identified as "up and coming" in his industry.
Sommerhauser focuses his practice in the manufacturing, service and retail sectors and advises on acquisitions and sales of private and public companies. He is also on the board of both Kohl’s Corporation and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Skindrud’s practice focuses on corporate finance, health law and securities. According to the list, peers noted his "prominent expertise" in emerging technologies as well.
Chernof regularly represents developers, institutional lenders, real estate brokerage companies and others in the real estate field on a wide variety of matters, including tax credit transactions. Dwyer actively represents landlords and tenants in the retail industry as well as developers and investors in the built-to-suit markets.
The report also recognized shareholders Howard Pollack and Bill Levit as significant members of a group of attorneys within the firm’s litigation practice skilled in corporate, commercial, antitrust and securities litigation. Levit is the senior member of the firm’s litigation group and also frequently serves as an arbitrator and mediator. By appointment of Wisconsin’s governor, he serves as a trustee of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, having more than $70 billion in assets.
