"I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be a summer associate at Godfrey & Kahn this past summer after completing my first year of law school. Through the program, I was given the opportunity to work on projects from many different practice groups. I took part in performing due diligence for the Corporate Team, preparing client updates for the Securities Team, researching Solicitor General opinions for the Indian Nations Team, and drafting memoranda regarding arbitration for the Litigation Team. Like many summer associates, I came into the program not knowing what area of law I eventually wanted to practice, but the exposure that the firm's Summer Associate Program gave me this past summer significantly helped me narrow my choices."
"When the program began, I was told that the projects distributed to the summer associates were those that would otherwise be assigned to first-year associates. While this level of accountability made me feel a bit nervous at first, the collegial atmosphere and open-door policy made me feel comfortable asking the associates and shareholders questions in order to ensure the accuracy of my work. I do not mean to suggest that the program is all work and no play. We attended Milwaukee Brewers games, hiked part of the Ice Age Trail, spent the day with Chief Justice Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court in Madison, fished in Sheboygan, and golfed in the firm's associate golf tournament. One event that I was particularly fond of was participating in the construction of a house for Habitat for Humanity."
"I truly enjoyed getting to know, and working with, each person at Godfrey & Kahn. The attorneys and staff are so impressive, and I am so thankful that I got the chance to learn from them this past summer."
Summer Associate Testimonials
"I learned more about the practice of law in the nine weeks I spent at Godfrey & Kahn than I have learned throughout my law school career. The projects I worked on at the firm came from an array of practice areas and involved a variety of skill sets, so I was able to determine where my strengths and interests lie. I was also given the opportunity to sit in on client calls and meetings; observing such interactions gave me a very real glimpse into what it truly means to be an attorney. Every attorney I met was willing to speak with me, talk through an assignment, help explain a difficult concept or just to chat.
The collegial and supportive culture of Godfrey & Kahn permeates the entire firm, including among the summer associates. It was inspiring to see such smart and passionate people working together and bouncing ideas off one another with the shared goal of getting the best result for the client. When I work with my fellow summer associates in the future, I know our relationships will mirror the collaborative, amicable relationships I have seen among the attorneys at Godfrey & Kahn.”

"A few days into my summer internship at Godfrey & Kahn, I knew I had made the right decision to accept a summer associate offer. The firm's supportive and vibrant culture makes it a special place to work. Even the most senior attorneys and staff demonstrated a willingness learn about my interests, help accomplish my career goals, and share their insights on the firm and their practice. I appreciated that the summer program gave me the flexibility to explore various practice areas and challenged me with meaningful client-centered projects.
Beyond providing incredible educational experiences, the summer program allowed me to meet wonderful people that I looked forward to working with every day. Summer events, such as Brewers games, touring Milwaukee, and fantastic dining experiences, helped me to cultivate meaningful relationships with attorneys and staff. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally as a summer associate at Godfrey & Kahn."
