"Car Dealer Software Antitrust Suits Consolidated In Ill." (Law360)

The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on Thursday consolidated several lawsuits filed against CDK Global LLC and The Reynolds and Reynolds Co. over accusations the software providers conspired to limit access to data stored on their dealer management systems and agreed not to compete.

The transfer of the five cases from the Central District of California to the Northern District of Illinois coincided with two new cases filed in Illinois on Thursday, in which a Buffalo, New York-based used car dealership made the same accusations of CDK and Reynolds.

The MDL panel said in a four-page transfer order that despite some of the plaintiffs' requests that the cases be sent to the Western District of Wisconsin, the Northern District of Illinois is a better fit with a capable judge.

"CDK is headquartered in the district, and relevant documents and witnesses thus will be found there," the panel said. "Further, centralization in the Northern District of Illinois enables us to assign the litigation to Judge Amy J. St Eve, an able and experienced jurist who has skillfully handled a number of other MDLs. We are confident that the judge will steer this litigation on a prudent course."
