"Natalie's Everyday Heroes: Marvin Bynum of Godfrey and Kahn law firm" (CBS 58)
CBS 58November 13, 2019
Godfrey & Kahn was pleased to again host this year’s Amazing Shake competition in collaboration with Milwaukee College Prep (MCP).
The Amazing Shake competition helps MCP’s middle school students learn important soft skills like a firm hand shake, how to introduce themselves and how to make small talk. While these may be simple skills, they need to be taught and ultimately help students as they progress through high school, college and, eventually, their careers.
Marvin C. Bynum II, an attorney with the firm, originally connected Godfrey & Kahn with Milwaukee College Prep to host this program three years ago.
“The first year we did it, everybody fell in love,” Bynum said. “Fell in love with the kids. Fell in love with the entire concept, which is really just to help these kids develop these soft skills.”
Bynum was once a shy kid on the other side of the handshake and believes that a program like this would have benefitted him as well.
“I was a smart kid and I liked people, but I was a little nervous in a one on one setting so I would have loved to have something like this to help me get better at that, at that age,” Bynum said.
Four of the 20 students who participated in the Amazing Shake competition at this year’s Godfrey & Kahn event were selected to go on to the Amazing Shake National Competition at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Ga.
