Matt Stoiber is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group focusing on commercial and employment litigation matters. Matt has litigated cases involving a variety of issues, including contract disputes, trade secrets, non-competition, copyright infringement, international sales, breach of fiduciary duty, land disputes, fraud, misrepresentation, employment and disability discrimination, wage-and-hour class actions, and trusts and estates. Matt litigates in federal and state courts and has experience handling appeals. As part of his practice, Matt regularly volunteers to represent indigent prisoners pro bono in civil rights cases in federal court.
Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Matt was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Judge William C. Griesbach of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin, a judicial intern to the Honorable Justice Daniel Kelly of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin. While in law school, Matt served as Managing Editor of the Wisconsin Law Review.
Representative Experience
Represented purchaser in eight-figure contract dispute over purchase obligations and obtained complete dismissal of all of plaintiff’s claims on summary judgment.
Represented company in eight-figure dispute against plaintiff seeking to enforce four promissory notes and achieved complete dismissal of all claims on summary judgment.
Represented trailer manufacturer on appeal in warranty dispute and secured affirmance of order dismissing case for lack of personal jurisdiction.
Represented departed employee against former employer and secured dismissal of employer’s non-compete and non-solicitation claims on a motion to dismiss, then achieved dismissal of all of the employer’s remaining trade secrets claims.
Represented U.S.-based wire mesh manufacturer against seller in international sales dispute arising under the U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and achieved favorable settlement for client.
Represented seller accused of fraud, misrepresentation, and breach of contract in real estate dispute and achieved complete dismissal of plaintiff’s complaint on a motion to dismiss.
Represented flavorings manufacturer in contamination dispute with national sugar supplier and achieved favorable settlement.
