Generation-skipping Estate Planning

J. Gardner Govan, a shareholder in the Estate Planning team at Godfrey & Kahn, will discuss strategies to maximize the tax benefits of generation-skipping transfers during lifetime and at death. His presentation will specifically discuss methods to leverage generation-skipping transfer tax exemption such as transfers utilizing the annual exclusion, dynasty trusts, charitable lead trusts and installment sales to grantor trusts. Gardner will also touch on recent news from Washington regarding the future of the Federal transfer tax system and the generation-skipping tax.

Gardner’s practice is concentrated in the areas of estate and gift planning, business succession planning, estate and fiduciary income taxation, charitable giving, probate administration and marital property agreements. Gardner’s clients include current and former owners of closely-held businesses and professionals and executives of public companies.
