Labor & Employment Law Update Fall 2005 Seminar - Milwaukee

This annual seminar presented by the Godfrey & Kahn Labor & Employment Team will focus on practical approaches to preventing and managing employment law problems. It is designed to provide employers with information concerning recent changes in labor and employment law and suggested strategies to deal with these changes.

The seminar is designed to serve the needs of:

  • Human resource professionals
  • In-house counsel
  • Front-line supervisors

This program has been approved for 3 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). For more information about certification

This program has also been approved by the Board of Bar Examiners for 3 hours of use toward the Wisconsin Mandatory CLE requirement.

Session Descriptions
Labor & Employment Law Update
Labor & Employment attorneys from Godfrey & Kahn will discuss the latest changes and developments in labor and employment law for 2005.

Break-out Session I Options:
Keeping Your Company’s Confidential Information Confidential -We will discuss non-compete agreements and what to do if a former employee does not have a confidentiality or non-compete agreement and is engaging in post-employment competition.

Keeping Pace With an Aging Workforce - The face of the workforce is changing as baby-boomers age. This session will discuss recruiting and retention of older workers, the new Supreme Court case on disparate impact, bona fide occupational qualifications, policies that impact employees over age 40, reduced work schedules and retirement issues.

Break-out Session II Options:
Dancing With the Doctor: How (and When) to Ask for an Employee’s or Applicant’s Medical Information - Dealing with medical records and related issues can be sticky for employers. We will discuss issues surrounding medical inquiries of employees and applicants, and when employers can and should ask for medical information.

Update on Employee Benefits Issues - This session will address recent developments concerning employee benefits including: the new grace period for flex plans, health plan options under new Medicare Part D rules, an update on retiree medical and the ADEA, new deferred compensation rules under 409A, an HSA update, inadvertent ERISA severance plans, the new definition of “dependent,” and a fiduciary duty update.
