A Great Weed-Out at Juneau Park

December 23, 2010

Members of the Godfrey & Kahn team lent a hand to Juneau Park Friends (JPF) near the Solomon Juneau statue in Milwaukee to weed out invasive buckthorn at the bluff. JPF is a newly organized non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the preservation, enhancement and enjoyment of Juneau Park. Our Godfrey & Kahn volunteers were given some background on the area, along with the vision of what the park will become with the support of downtown area businesses. The volunteers weeded out the buckthorn plants that were first brought here from Europe in the mid-1800s as a popular hedging material.

The volunteers enjoyed the combination of eco-learning and their volunteering experience. Paralegal Kristine Schumann summed up the experience best: "It is a great feeling volunteering in the parks knowing that when you leave, you really have made a visible difference!" For more information, visit
