Associates Participate in Negotiation Training

The Associates' Committee and Training Department recently sponsored a Negotiation Skills and Tactics program for all associates and special counsel attorneys. The program was presented by Professor Ralph Cagle who teaches negotiation and mediation at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Professor Cagle, a practicing attorney at Hurley, Burish & Stanton in Madison, serves as a mediator in business, employment, professional and tort disputes. The program included a panel discussion titled "Observations from the Front Lines" where Professor Cagle was joined by Godfrey & Kahn shareholders Patricia Falb, Dan Flaherty and Tim McCoy who discussed negotiation techniques in both transactional and litigation settings. Peter Sommerhauser, a corporate team shareholder, presented "My Perspective on Negotiation." The program included a break-out exercise and a role play where participants were asked to identify strategic moves or phrases that influenced the final outcome of the negotiation.
