FEC Approves New Contribution Limits for 2007-2008 Election Cycle

January 26, 2007

On Tuesday, the Federal Elections Commission approved new contribution limits for the 2007-2008 election cycle. These increased individual contribution limits are made possible through the provision in the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act indexing certain federal contribution limits for inflation. Accordingly, the contribution amount necessary to "max out" to a federal candidate just got a little bigger.

The new federal contribution limits are summarized below.

Type of Contribution
2007-2008 Limit
Old Limit
Individuals to federal candidates
(per election - primary and general)
Individuals to national political
party committees (per year)
Overall cycle limit for individuals
(per two year cycle)
Total to all federal candidates
Total to all other federal committees

The individual contribution limit to a federal PAC ($5,000 per year) remains unchanged.
