Announcement

Godfrey & Kahn Environmental Practice Co-Chair Selected for DNR Green Tier Advisory Committee

December 20, 2005

Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce that Arthur J. Harrington, a shareholder and co-chair of the firm’s Environmental and Energy Law Practice Group in the Milwaukee office, recently accepted an invitation from DNR Secretary Scott Hassett to participate for a one-year term on the DNR Green Tier Advisory Committee as an Economic Development Perspectives Advisor.

The Advisory Committee consists of 16 members chosen from the business sectors, industry councils, municipalities and environmental organizations and will focus on the Green Tier program that was recently enacted by the Wisconsin Legislature. The Green Tier program provides a mechanism to encourage and reward superior environmental and energy performance by organizations in the State. The committee will provide the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources with recommendations that will assist the Department for evaluating the effectiveness of the Green Tier program and provide recommendations for increasing the reach of the program into various sectors of the Wisconsin economy.

Harrington has more than 25 years of experience in environmental law and more than 10 years of experience in energy law. He also has extensive experience in litigation relating to these practice areas and serves as mediator in environmental disputes.

Harrington received the Wisconsin Law Journal’s Leaders in the Law award in March 2004 for Crandon Mine efforts, was named the top Environmental Lawyer in each of the last three surveys conducted by Milwaukee Magazine, and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Environmental Law category for the last fifteen years. In addition, Harrington serves on four Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources task forces as a result of appointments made by the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources: the DNR Brownfield Advisory Committee, the Sediment Advisory Committee, the Contaminated Soil Advisory Committee and the Green Tier Advisory Committee as an Economic Development Perspectives Advisor

Harrington received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1972 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1975 from the University of Wisconsin. His academic honors include Phi Beta Kappa, Order of the Coif, and a member of the Wisconsin Law Review, where he also served as note and comment editor.
