This Privacy Notice describes the practices of Godfrey & Kahn S.C. (“we,” “us,” or “Godfrey & Kahn”) in collecting, using, disclosing and protecting Personal Information received or obtained from visitors to our website located at https://www.gklaw.com (our “Site”) and Personal Information received or obtained from individuals through our marketing efforts (“Marketing”) and firm-hosted events (“Events”), including the online tools that we may use to communicate regarding Marketing and Events, such as email, phone, or text messaging.
We may revise this Privacy Notice at any time. If we do so, we will post any material changes to this Privacy Notice on our Site and revise the “Last Updated” date above to confirm the date upon which the Privacy Notice has been changed.
When we refer to your “Personal Information” in this Privacy Notice, we are referring to it broadly as including any information that may identify, describe, be associated with, or be linked, directly or indirectly, with you, your devices, your workplace and/or employer, or your household (collectively, “Personal Information”).
Use of Site and submission of Personal Information do not establish an attorney-client relationship
This Privacy Notice does not govern our collection, use, disclosure, or protection of information that you provide to us as a client, or that you provide while consulting with us about a prospective engagement, or otherwise during the course of legal representation as our practices with respect to such information are governed by applicable ethical rules and our client engagement letters.
Providing Personal Information to us through Marketing, Events, or our Site does not establish an attorney-client relationship. Rather, an attorney-client relationship is established only if you and we, together, agree to and execute an appropriate client engagement letter.
What Personal Information is collected?
Information you provide to us. We may collect Personal Information about you when you provide it to us (a) while registering for, attending, or communicating with us about any of our Marketing or Events or (b) when using or interacting with our Site, including when applying for any open employment positions through the Site. In those circumstances, we may collect Personal Information such as the following when you provide it to us:
- your name;
- your e-mail address;
- your mailing address;
- your telephone number;
- your State Bar number (for CLE credit, for example);
- your current job title and employer; and
- your job and education history and any other information provided in employment application materials.
We may also receive messages or content that contain Personal Information and that you submit when you register for, attend, or communicate with us about any of our Marketing or Events or when you use the Site. If, for example, you choose to respond to a survey that we conduct or a questionnaire that we present, we will collect your responses and may use and share them with others.
Information we collect automatically. Through our Marketing, Events, and Site, we may employ technologies that collect certain Personal Information about you automatically. We may collect, among other things, your IP address, location, device type, date and time of visit, operating system, browser type and version, activities with our Marketing, for the Events, or on the Site, and information about how you use the Site. If you are visiting the Site via a mobile device, we may also collect that mobile device’s unique device ID and information about how you use the Site. We may also collect information about what you download and upload to the Site.
Information we receive from other sources. From time to time, we may also receive Personal Information about you from our third-party service providers, affiliates, and partners, including our marketing and advertising partners and social media networks. For example, we receive Personal Information on our email campaigns from our third-party service providers, including whether you have read an email sent by us or on our behalf, forwarded an email, and when and how many times you have opened an email. We may also receive Personal Information from third-party analytics on the Site that allow us to improve our Site and conduct our operations. We may also collect Personal Information about you from publicly available sources, including social media.
Nothing in this Privacy Notice shall limit our ability to collect Personal Information about individuals through means of discovery or publicly available sources as part of litigation or other legal functions that are part of our or other similar law firms’ ordinary course of business.
What do we do with Personal Information?
We use Personal Information collected through Marketing, Events, or the Site in the following ways:
- to provide you with services or goods;

- to improve our marketing efforts, including by making inferences about you;
- to administer and improve our Marketing, Events, and Site, including personalizing your experience with our Marketing, Events, and Site and analyzing how our Marketing, Events, and Site are used;
