Navigating the Impacts of Autonomous Vehicles

December 5, 2017|Pittsburgh, PA|11:45 AM - 12:35 PM

Presented by: Arthur Harrington, Sarah Schenck, Tim Frisbie and Ray Gastil

Without thoughtful policies in place, widespread use of autonomous vehicles (AVs) could lead to additional urban sprawl, as commuters can use the additional driving time to engage in other activities (such as work), potentially having a significant impact on urban brownfield redevelopment. Key issues we will address include how AVs may impact the demand for redeveloping brownfields, how policymakers can potentially incentivize brownfield redevelopment in anticipation of widespread use of AVs, and how municipalities and relevant stakeholders can capitalize on the potentially positive impacts of AVs with respect to more efficient, sustainable land use.
