Godfrey & Kahn welcomes William J. Nelson to its Environment & Energy Strategies team. Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Nelson served as the lead attorney for the WDNR Remediation and Redevelopment Program, including providing strategic counsel to the WDNR in response to the State of Wisconsin’s growing concern related to PFAS and the impact on the WDNR’s critical Voluntary Liability Exemption Program, or VPLE.
Nelson joins Godfrey & Kahn Shareholder, Ned Witte in the practice. In 2020, the Biden-Harris Agency Review Team for the United States Environmental Protection Agency to consult on PFAS issues reached out to Witte to provide advice on the incoming EPA’s regulatory management of PFAS based on his recognized experience in the area. More recently, the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) invited Witte to serve as a member of the newly formed WDNR PFAS Policy Advisory Group.
