MADISON, Wis. (April 22, 2025) — Attorneys Timothy D. Edwards and Hayley Rich-Noble are recipients of the State Bar of Wisconsin 2024 Hon. Charles Dunn Author Award for their timely writing on the legal implications of artificial intelligence in litigation. Named after Wisconsin's first Supreme Court chief justice, this award recognizes excellence in legal writing within the state. Edwards and Rich-Noble co-authored the two-part series, “Discovering & Admitting AI Data in State & Federal Courts,” published in the November and December 2024 issues of Wisconsin Lawyer magazine, the State Bar’s flagship publication that is distributed to approximately 25,000 member attorneys. The articles examine the evidentiary and procedural challenges of using AI-generated data in court, offering practical guidance for attorneys navigating a rapidly changing legal landscape. “AI is one of the most innovative and impactful technological changes lawyers are facing,” said members of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Communications Committee, which selected the authors for the honor. “These articles offered timely insight, addressed key risks, and reminded readers of their duty to stay informed and cautious when using AI tools.” Edwards is a complex litigation attorney with Edwards ESI LLC in Fitchburg. Rich-Noble is a litigation attorney at Godfrey & Kahn S.C. in Madison. The Charles Dunn Author Award is presented annually to authors whose work upholds the highest standards of writing and contributes meaningfully to the understanding of the legal profession. The award is presented by the State Bar’s Communications Committee, which also serves as the editorial board for Wisconsin Lawyer, the State Bar’s flagship publication. The pair will be honored at the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Annual Meeting and Conference at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison on June 19, 2025.
