Noncompete law in Wisconsin: A new era?

Noncompete law in Wisconsin has always been a unique area that, perhaps more than any other, requires specific Wisconsin-based expertise. In recent years, we have seen a shift from employee-favored case law, to more balanced decisions (dare we say, employer-friendly rulings), beginning with the 2009 Star Direct decision through the recent Runzheimer decision in 2014. In addition, a newly-proposed noncompete statute is currently pending in the Wisconsin Legislature, which would fundamentally change the way noncompete agreements are interpreted and enforced for Wisconsin companies. Learn the proverbial “dos and don’ts” under the current state of the law, and get a preview of the picture of Wisconsin law if and when the new legislation is passed.
