TOPICS

Godfrey & Kahn will again host our annual Corporate Counsel Symposium, a complimentary, informative program addressing some of the most current issues and challenges facing in-house legal departments. Topics include:

  • Dealing with financially distressed customers and vendors: Risk mitigation and remedies
During this presentation we’ll discuss financial distress warning signs and techniques to mitigate your organization’s risk exposure.

  • A case study: What in-house lawyers can learn from Theranos
The subject of a bestselling book, podcast and HBO documentary, this case study discusses how Silicon Valley startup Theranos came crashing down as problems with the company’s technology were exposed. The Theranos story provides a fascinating backdrop for discussing certain ethics rules which are highly relevant to in-house lawyers.

  • Employee compensation practices: What you need to know
Compensation practices have become the subject of public comment, federal reporting requirements and shareholder scrutiny. In today’s environment, employers are expected to disclose detailed compensation information and adopt blind hiring practices with respect to salary history. Meanwhile, the workforce demands transparency in pay practices and taking independent action to disclose and disseminate compensation information about employers. Through this presentation, we will explore the legal requirements placed on employers as well as the do’s and don’ts when evaluating your compensation practices and making corrections as necessary.

  • Collaborating with your competitors: Analyzing antitrust risk in joint ventures
Following a brief overview of federal antitrust laws and agency guidance applicable to competitor collaborations, we will discuss how joint ventures are analyzed under U.S. antitrust law. You’ll walk away with practical tips for structuring joint ventures that help minimize antitrust risk.

  • Cybersecurity: IT services/software contracts and CCPA
Data security, privacy and intellectual property indemnification contract provisions are vital for software and IT services contracts. In this session, we’ll review common mistakes made in technology contracts and how to avoid them. We’ll conclude with an update on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
