

Meet Tim
Tim Smith is a tax attorney in Godfrey & Kahn’s Milwaukee office. His practice primarily focuses on advising clients regarding the federal and state income tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions and other business transactions.
Tim advises clients on the tax implications of forming, owning, restructuring, selling and acquiring business entities, including limited liability companies, C corporations, S corporations, partnerships and financial institutions. He works with businesses in structuring taxable and tax-free transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, spin-offs, like-kind exchanges, equity rollovers and ESOP transactions. He also counsels businesses on tax planning and tax compliance matters.
In addition, Tim assists businesses, investors, tax-exempt organizations and governmental bodies with structuring solar and other renewable energy investments that are eligible for investment tax credits and other tax incentives. He also advises tax-exempt organizations, including private foundations, community foundations, public charities and supporting organizations on tax-exempt compliance matters. Tim also represents businesses in federal and state tax controversy and tax litigation proceedings.
