Meet Andrew
Andrew Spillane is an associate in the Banking & Financial Institutions and Technology & Digital Business Practice Groups in the Milwaukee office. Andrew has focused his legal career in the banking and financial services industries, working primarily with depository institutions, financial technology providers, and private investment funds.
Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Andrew was associate general counsel at a Milwaukee-area bank. In that role, he provided legal support for the bank’s deposit, small-dollar lending, and mortgage business lines, day-to-day operations, information technology, procurement, anti-money laundering, enterprise risk management, regulatory affairs, and compliance functions. Andrew has parlayed this experience in private practice through working as “outside general counsel” for his depository institution clients, assisting them with new product initiatives, digital banking and treasury management offerings, privacy and information security matters, vendor management, audit engagements, and corporate and risk governance.
Throughout his career, Andrew has supported numerous technology initiatives, through designing and negotiating agreements for end user terms, managed information technology services, hosting solutions, electronic data interchange, IT staffing and consulting, artificial intelligence and data analytics, software development projects, integration relationships, and reseller and distribution channels, as well as providing leadership during implementation of new solutions and engagement termination and de-conversion. Andrew’s financial services experience informs these projects, both in terms of regulatory needs and market practice.
Andrew’s financial industry experience also led him to working with private funds. His clients include investment managers sponsoring funds, institutional investors, investment advisers and family offices, and high net worth individuals investing in these funds. Andrew’s experience spans venture capital, private equity, credit and debt, real estate, cryptocurrency, and hedge funds, ranging from smaller, locally concentrated funds up to multi-billion-dollar funds with global footprints. Andrew counsels managers launching, fundraising, and developing the terms of their offerings, as well as investors seeking financial and strategic returns.
