Andrew Spillane is an associate in the Banking & Financial Institutions and Technology & Digital Business Practice Groups in the Milwaukee office. Andrew focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, branch and loan portfolio sales, regulatory compliance, vendor management, and financial technology. Leveraging his years of experience in financial services, Andrew also helps the firm’s clients navigate the industry. These matters include payment processing, treasury management, consumer credit, financial privacy and security, advertising initiatives like contests, and negotiating investments in private funds.
Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Andrew was associate general counsel at a Milwaukee-area bank. In this role, he focused on the institution’s retail deposit and small-dollar consumer lending operations. Andrew collaborated with the business units in creating various products and marketing initiatives, as well as negotiating technology service provider and other vendor agreements. He supported the bank’s risk governance and compliance management program by providing a legal perspective on various committees and risk assessments; working with leadership and management to draft policies, procedures, and internal controls; and handling consumer litigation and disputes. Andrew also acted as a point of contact with various banking agencies, in examinations and through preparing and filing notices, applications, and requests for no supervisory objection for major company events.
Andrew spent the beginning of his legal career in the public sector, interning for the Hon. Charles N. Clevert, Jr. at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the Hon. Mark D. Gundrum at the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and the Office of the Governor of Wisconsin. During law school, he devoted much of his attention to legal writing, serving as lead articles editor for the Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review, which published his comment; authoring another law review article for the Marquette Elder’s Advisor; contributing to the Marquette University Law School Faculty Blog; and acting as a research assistant for Prof. Kali N. Murray. Andrew honed his advocacy skills in Marquette’s Jenkins Intramural Moot Court Competition.
