Sarah Sargent is an associate in the Milwaukee office and a member of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity and Technology & Digital Business Practice Groups. Having obtained the CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, Sarah’s knowledge allows her to counsel clients on cutting edge best practices for internal and external data privacy and security matters. Her experience in deftly navigating regulations such as the European Union’s sweeping General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants her unique insight when advising clients on the most appropriate and effective choices when examining insurance policies and technology contracts. Beyond preventative efforts, Sarah’s focus also includes data breach remediation and litigation, working with opposing counsels, forensics experts and government regulators to resolve security incidents promptly and efficiently.
Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Sarah was an associate at a large Milwaukee-based law firm where she routinely represented clients in data privacy compliance planning and data security breach response, including malware and ransomware attacks. Sarah also worked on a range of commercial litigation, including ERISA litigation and various contracting disputes.
Sarah enjoys volunteering in her community as a pro bono attorney with the Lotus Legal Clinic, an organization that assists survivors of sexual violence by providing legal advocacy, personal empowerment and educational services.
